Are you a young person of colour or young First Nations mob with ideas on how to challenge racism on campus? Do you want to create a better future for racially and ethnically marginalised students?

Get involved with the ROAR Program!

Join us to co-design solutions with like-minded university students who have also experienced racism and discrimination.

The ROAR program is an anti-racism project funded by the Victorian Government for young people with experiences of racism and discrimination to connect and work together on a transformative project — while also having fun!

ROAR is designed, developed and delivered through an intersectional lens by peer-workers from multicultural, LGBTIQA+ and neurodivergent communities who understand the intersectional racism that young people face.

We believe in the power and potential of young people to change the world to one that we all want to live in and doesn’t discriminate based on identity, skin colour or any other aspect of our lives.

Join a co-design workshop

The next step for ROAR is a series of co-design workshops — here are three sessions taking place-so you can choose the one that best suits you.

WHERE

Multicultural Hub, Elizabeth St, Melbourne

WHEN

The week of July 13, 2026

WHO

Victorian university students aged 17–30 with diverse experiences of racism and discrimination

 What to expect

At the workshop there will be time to connect and get comfortable before we explore how racism and discrimination shows up in society and the university environment.

Then you get the chance to offer your ideas, and hear from others to co-design a range of potential solutions, which can be developed into an anti-racism project.

There will be food and a $50 voucher to reimburse some of your time.

Do any of the following apply?

What happens after that?

In the next stage of ROAR, two of the co-designed anti-racism initiatives will be developed into projects and one or two will be selected to move forward with — allowing the vision to be brought to life and contribute to real-life change with a $2,000 activity budget.

In the final stage of ROAR, we will evaluate the process and outcomes and create a report. We also plan to invite members of the community, university, government, funders, and our friends and family to hear about the anti-racism solutions we developed.

Referrals welcome from service providers and schools via roar@intertwine.org.au

What’s the deadline to sign up?

Our first session will take place during the second week of March 2026. Please sign up by 28 February 2026.

How long is the program?

The program runs every week (except for SWOTVAC and exams) from 9 March 2026 to Friday 2 October 2026.

Do I have to attend every workshop?

Obviously there are times when life gets in the way of what you want to do. That’s fine — joining in something like this shouldn’t cause stress for you. But we reckon the more you attend, the more you’ll get out of it…

What does it cost?
Taking part in this program is FREE thanks to funding from the Victorian State Government and generous funders.
I have accessibility requirements, can I still attend?

Yes! The workshops will be held at accessible venue which are yet to be determined.  If you have any specific requirements or questions, please get in touch with us at roar@intertwine.org.au

Catching public transport to the campuses is easy. But get in touch if you need more info.

We have myki $ if you need it to get here.

Will there be food?

Yes, of course — every week we’ll have yummy snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.

What does ROAR stand for?

Reclaiming Ourselves. Anti-Racism Project — but we’re open to other suggestions!

What do you mean by diversity?

We all have different experiences of the world but you’d be surprised how much we have in common. This program is primarily for young people with diverse and intersecting experiences — some of us will be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, some of us will be part of a family and community where people have come from overseas and others will have families who have been here for generations. In addition, maybe you’re autistic or have ADHD,  or use a wheelchair or a combination of those things. Maybe you identify as queer, trans or gender non-conforming — or you’re still working it all out! All people of colour and mob are welcome at ROAR!

I'm a parent/guardian with some queries

No problem — we’d love to talk. Please email toyo@intertwine.org.au and they’ll email you back or call if you send a phone number. All the facilitators and peer workers have Working with Children checks and we’re happy to answer any other queries you have.
