Thank you for considering participating in this evaluation. This statement will provide information about the project. Please read this information carefully.
You may ask questions about anything you would like to know more about.
Your participation is voluntary. If you don’t wish to participate, you don’t have to.
If you do begin participating, you can stop at any time. Should you wish to stop at any stage, all information that you have contributed up to that point will be deleted from all records and not included in the analysis.
What is the purpose of this evaluation?
The goals of this evaluation are to assess the implementation of Our Watch’s most recent Organisational Strategy to Strengthen our Intersectional Approach and determine to what extent it:
- Is understood by internal stakeholders
- Is implemented by internal stakeholders
- Affects the perception and participation of external stakeholders.
The purpose is to provide Our Watch with clear practical recommendations and guidelines to reduce barriers to implementation and to inform the next Organisational Strategy to Strengthen our Intersectional Approach.
We are interested in your reflections and experiences about the following:
- To what extent has the Intersectionality Strategy 2017-18 and the 2018-2020 Strategy been effective at strengthening the organisation’s capacity to take an intersectional approach?
- To what extent have actions and deliverables been completed?
- What impact has the Our Watch Organisational Strategy to Strengthen Our Intersectional Approach had?
- How do you perceive Our Watch, and what are your expectations of the organisation in taking an intersectional approach?
- What are your views on the quality of Our Watch’s implementation of intersectional approaches?
- What are the enablers and barriers to applying intersectional approaches within the organisation? What are the gaps and limitations?
- What initiatives or strategies could enhance the organisation’s capacity to take an intersectional approach in its work?
What does my participation involve?
If you agree to participate in this research you will be asked to sign the consent form attached to this letter. By signing it you confirm that you:
- Understand what you have read/been told
- Consent to be involved in this evaluation
- Consent to participate in a one-hour long interview or focus group with an intertwine evaluator
- Consent to the interview/focus group being audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed.
What will I be asked to do?
If you agree to participate in this evaluation, you will be asked to:
- Participate in an interview/focus group of approximately one hour’s duration that will focus on details about the enabling environment, impediments to implementation and recommendations for improvement in Our Watch’s Intersectionality Strategy
- Read a transcript of the interview/focus group and let the researchers know if there are any inaccuracies in the transcript or if you wish to add anything
COVID-19 adjustments
As the current COVID-19 circumstances do not permit face-to-face interviews and focus groups, they will be conducted via Zoom unless you request another method such as audio-only by phone. There may also be some online activities similar to activities you would normally see in a focus group. These may occur during the online focus group or you may be asked to complete online tasks at another time.
Participant information will be sent via email with a unique link to provide electronic consent via a form and checkbox. This list of consent details will be stored electronically and also extracted into a PDF for printing by Our Watch.
Should Our Watch or yourself require a unique voice recording of consent, this can also be arranged.
Interviewers will also check with you verbally before the interview/focus group begins that you understand the information in the sheet, that you have consented to having your information collected and stored, and that you are comfortable with having the Zoom interview recorded.
What about my privacy and confidentiality?
No participants will be identified in published reports and no content of the interviews/focus groups will be attributed to any specific participant.
The information you provide will only be used for the purpose of this evaluation and it will only be disclosed with your permission. You will be given the opportunity to read a draft of the evaluation and to delete any information you have provided that you do not wish to be made public.
What are the possible benefits associated with participating in this evaluation?
The knowledge generated from this project will be used to provide Our Watch with clear practical recommendations and guidelines to reduce barriers to implementation of the Intersectional Approach and to inform Our Watch’s next Organisational Strategy to Strengthen our Intersectional Approach.
There will be benefits for you, including:
- An opportunity to reflect on strengths and limitations,
- Sharing concerns and best practice,
- Networking,
- Contributing to the development of policies and resources which you will be able to use in your work.
Other benefits are possible contributions to collective funding submissions advocating for policy and programs to promote positive health and wellbeing for people experiencing family violence.
All external participants will receive appropriate compensation for their participation in the evaluation as follows:
- Where a participant is attached to a well-funded partner organisation, the stakeholder will have access to early release of the results, and to any tools and materials developed as a result of their input.
- Where a participant is attached to a small partner organisation, the stakeholder’s time may be reimbursed on request up to a value of $50 per hour.
- Although there are no plans to include service users in the current evaluation, should a service user be engaged at any point during the evaluation, they will be compensated by way of a $20 gift card.
What are the possible risks and disadvantages of taking part?
There are no appreciable risks associated with participating in this evaluation.
How will the research findings be reported back?
You may be invited to forums in which the findings will be presented and discussed, and to contribute to the development of recommendations and guidelines for improving the next Organisational Strategy to Strengthen our Intersectional Approach.
Who is organising and funding this project?
This evaluation was commissioned by Our Watch and is being conducted by intertwine pty ltd, a registered charity in Victoria that conducts training and evaluation around intersectionality, diversity and inclusion.
