If you’re a parent, guardian or carer of a teen or young adult navigating the impacts of racism, ableism, queerphobia, transphobia or sexism, this session is for you.
Rising, Resisting & Rebelling was a 90-minute online workshop co-presented by ro (phoenix) bersten (intertwine) and Mish Kumar-Jonson (Niram) in July 2025. It is designed to help parents and carers understand what your young person might be going through.
We explored identity, power, discrimination and how to be a supportive adult in a young person’s life, with compassion, connection and community at the heart of it all.
Proudly supported by Maribyrnong City Council, the workshop covered general content but also spent some time discussing our FUSE Maribyrnong program currently running in Footscray, Victoria.
Thank you to Gabor Maté for the video on attachment & authenticity; to TraumaGeek for the safe&social/flight/fight/freeze ladder (please see the full post here) and Common Cause Australia for the material on healthy persuasion. Listen to the Sarah Kay poem in full.
